Philips Fidelio X1/00 Hi-Fi Stereo Indoor Headphones : Wonderful sound signature, brilliant sounstage

You get 150% more volume and bass. Also the mids start to shine. But without the amplifier, these are really really good for orchestra music, piano, jazz, heavy bass\the voices however not so good. You would need a really good cable for voices.

Fall in love with your music all over again. . Great, focused bass and crystal highs. Using with aune t1 dac / headphone amp and mullard tube – beautifully matched. Like listening to vinyl again but hearing things i’ve never heard before.

A stunning musical headphone. Cyrus cd 8 se2/cyrus psx-r + lehmann black cube linear headphone amp2. Arcam fmj cd 36/arcam dv 139 – for sacd + arcam a32 ampqed signature audio xt interconnectsi’m very impressed with the fidelio x1, it’s entering a fiercely competitive market place but i think it’s going to raise more than a few eye brows from it’s competitors. Compared to the open headphones i have at this price point (akg 702 & q701, sennheiser hd 600 & hd 650), it really is an impressive piece if gear. It’s an open circumaural design, so the usual applies: high sound leakage and poor noise isolation. You’ll need somewhere quiet, the reward though is a spacious & airy soundstage that you wont find on any closed h/phone at any price point. And the soundstage here is one of the best i’ve heard. Not only does it rival the renowned akgs, it trumps it when it comes to depth. Film soundtracks/classical through these is nothing short of breath taking.

Make sure you like open back headphones before you buy. First of all my point of reference when it comes to audio is that im used to listening to fairly high end setup of marantz and b&w speakers so yeah a couple of grands worth of hifi. Therefore you will find my review a bit more critical than other users that are newish to hifi. I know it sounds obvious but make sure you try open back headphones before you buy these. This was my first pair of open backs and after a few months found my self going back to my closed back audio technica ath-es7 which retail for about £100, which of course is a much cheaper head phone. I ran the headphones in for about 3 days solid before use so run in wasnt an issueim not going to knock these headphones just because i prefer closed back but i still thought they could do with a few improvements for the price. I ran these headphone via a highly regarded beresford tc-7520 dac/headphone amplifier so plenty of detail and power on tap to power these beasts at deafening volume. Overall, i would say they sound good but not mind blowing. The traits that i look for in a sound are speed, precision and excitement that also have a slight bass hump/forward mid range. The strong points are that these headphones are very balanced in that no area of the spectrum is emphasised.

Wow what can i say about these. The build quality is second to none. The sound is amazing, do not forget these are a £300 headphones. I feel they need to be driven with a headphone amp to get the best out of them. I will be using these with a epiphany acoustics ehp-o2d dac and headphone amplifier, which is perfect for these headphones. My only gripe is that the earcuffs will very very quickly pick up dust and hair. I sugest you look around for “sock mod”as for people saying you need to replace the elad. I have tried the one supplied and i also bought the fisual s-flex mini 3m 3. 5mm jack cable and i could not tell any difference, wether this si my untrained ears but the cable in my opion is better than the stock.

The only headphones to fully satisfy me. . I have been through three different headphones before these, sending each back for one reason or another. I have finally found a pair of headphones i can’t find a reason to send back. The first pair, akg 550s: sent back because they were the flattest most unfufilling headphones i’ve ever heard. The second pair, sony mdr-1r: these actually sounded okay and they were pretty comfortable and may have been the last pair in my journey but they were uncomfortable with my microphone. The third pair, astro a40s: they sound okay (just okay) and they’re not incredibly uncomfortable but they make a squeaking sound every single time i move my head slightly because of my glasses so they had to goafter these three i finally came to the philips fidelio x1s and they have everything i am looking for. They are supremely comfortable and they sound great.

What a faff i have had in choosing a pair of high end headphones. . Between beyerdynamic custom 1’s, sennheiser on ear’s, monster ntune’s plus others i have eventually found best package of look, feel, & audio quality in these fidelio x1’s. They’re for home as “open back” type thus providing a “room speaker” sound as opposed to claustrophobic muffled traditional sounding head/earphones. Providing rich treble whilst offering deep & bouncy bass & the vaunted wide soundstage they are a luxurious component that i am very proud to own. Having high sensitivity coupled with low impedance they complement my iphone & ipad just perfectly. I purchased but returned a headphone amp having found it unneccessary (amp needed with the sennheisers to get adequate volume incidentally). These headphones are akin to a swiss wristwatch in that they’ll be handed down to my son – they are of such premium quality. Many web reviewers recommend replacing the cable but having personally tried 3 different 3. 5mm jack to jacks i think this assertion is snobbish tosh.

Best headphones i have heard so far. I own or have owned several headphones (among them sennheiser hd 570 which these replaces, bose ae (triport), jvc ha-nc250, soundmagic e10) but these are by far the best but also the most expensive by a small margin. They are definitely worth the price in my opinion as none of the others i have come close to the performance of these. I literately said wow when i first heard them. My wife had the same reaction even though she’s not the kind to just sit around and listen to music. The clarity, soundstage and separation of the different instruments blows all else i have had or tried out of the water. There’s a richness to the music that is hard to explain but is very addictive. It makes it hard to leave these headphones at home when going out. The bass goes deep and has impact even at low listening levels when playing through my titanium hd sound card.

Excellent headphones at a great price. Great, fullrange and rich sounding open backed headphones. Great build quality and really comfortable.

I am the proud owner of fidelio l1’s and sony mdr1’s which to me are great headphones, both different in the way sound is reproduced but great. I had actually almost ordered the fidelio x1’s 2 weeks ago when they were £179. To me at the time they represented great value and i knew from my experience of the l1’s they would be great. I almost pushed my prime basket order button. I fell off my chair when the day before my birthday for 1 day only they were less than fidelio l1s. I think you know what happened next. The fidelio x1’s are truly fantastic and are the biggest bargin in on-ear headphones on amazon or anywhere else at the moment. This price will go up again and you will only kick yourself.

Punches well above its price. I don’t have much experience with high end audio equipment. However, it’s hard to see how the x1 can be bettered without going into extreme diminishing returns. These are exceptional headphones and would be at any price, full stop. The fact that they only cost me £150 is pure wini’m using them in combination with the “schiit stack” – schiit magi + modi amp and dac, which are also amazing products. While x1 is easy to drive directly from a laptop or portable player, a decent amp and dac has had a transformative effect on the sound quality in my opinion. I have replaced the stock cable with a relatively cheap kabeldirekt pro series one, which you can also find on amazon. I do think there was an improvement, but that could just be my imagination. I’ve just been listening to the studio master 24bit/96khz version of pat metheny’s kin and cannot put into words how good it sounds with this set up.

Having only used low quality headphones before, these beauty’s came as a real shock to the system.

Great soundgreat productgreat buybut, do not forget to connect to an amplifier, the sound improves dramatically. As with all headphones :dwhat i noticed immediately was the great soudstage initially thought i had left the speakers connected to the amplifier but then i noticed that it was the effect of the headphonesgood treble, good mids, good bass, but when connected to an amplifier, otherwise the sound is good but not enough where i like especially the bass. Very comfortablethe only bad thing is not to have the removable earpads.

These headphones are for home use and they do an excellent job. They cope well with acoustic instruments and to my ears produce a natural sound that is not tiring. There’s plenty of deep bass too, but it’s not over-prominent. They are beautifully made with high-quality materials. I like the fact that the cable enters the phones via a standard mini-jack which means the cable is easily replaced if necessary, and if you accidentally walk off while wearing them the cable is likely to pull out rather than break. Since the cable terminates with a full-sized jack, it comes with a sturdy adapter for 3. However, this is not ideal for an ipod since the whole assembly is too big, so an alternative cable would be advisable. The cups are very soft, but i find the over-head suspension system a tiny bit tight (perhaps my head’s a bit big).

Totally contented with the performance of these superb headphones. Actually nicely crafted, attractive and comfortable to use, with removable cable (a big plus to me), and quite satisfying audio working experience.Slight boost in the decreased seem spectrum, but very low notes, mids and higher frequencies continue to completely audible and not overpowered or drowned by the reduce notes at all. Most likely these may possibly not be ‘reference headphones’ in the demanding feeling of the word, but they definitely produce spaciousness to the tunes and make playback of all songs so pretty a lot enjoyable. It is superb that these headphones are open up and still they deliver a correct bass reaction. I also have akg550 which are of a closed design and style and also have and were being specifically developed to have the sound of an open up headphone. They are equally ‘exceptional’ and unconventional headphones – 1, the phillips fidelio x1, being open up devoid of sacrificing the decreased frequencies, and the other, the akg550, getting shut and having the gains of an open up headphone.

Had these for about 2 months now and have expend a substantial time in a/b listening trials from the hd650s i have owned for two yrs. These are even now way out in front to my ears. A/b listening trials need to have to be almost immediate given that audio memory is notoriously deceptive. I rigged up two identical cd gamers, equivalent cds, and plugged in every single established. Switching immediately among headphones reveals that the audio stage – the 3-d ‘ness of the seem – is significantly far better on the x1s. I have previously a/b trialled the senn 650s versus the akg701s and grado 325s. But these x1s are in a different league altogether.

I really like these headphones but they have a single smaller challenge and that is the cable, it will make the bass a very little loose when you look at it to far more precise headphones but now the x2 came out which is been enhanced. If you invest in the x2 cable ( philips x2 audio cable no clip “ which is element quantity 9965-800-03348 @ £27. ninety five typical supply to uk mainland ) the bass is now pleasant and tight, much more exact. I in fact choose the x1 with x2 cable greater than the new x2’s.

eighty five% of the sennheiser high definition 800 knowledge. I have composed formerly about the talents of the philips fidelio array, and specifically the ds9000 speaker dock. See: philips ds9000/twelve primo docking speaker for ipad/iphone/ipod – wooden finishtempted by a fantastic knowledge with the manufacturer, i determined to purchase these fidelio x1 headphones. Incredibly substantial 50mm motorists (in contrast to the sennheiser high definition 700s which have 40mm kinds and the hd 800s which have 56mm kinds). Essential but not by itself accountable for wonderful sound. The latter, by the way, are the ideal headphones i have ever listened to. I’d say possibly eighty five for every cent of the hd 800 encounter at a fifth of the price tag. For me, that tends to make these wonderful.

Having only employed low top quality headphones before, these beauty’s came as a authentic shock to the program.

I just bought these for £100 secondhand off ebay and i do not consider i will get any far better for the price, though i have not auditioned the akg k612. Bass is punchy, in depth, very well textured. Mids are pretty smooth, neutral, no spikes whatsoever, highs are sparkly and just correct in the blend. Overall, the element amount is great, clarity is of a substantial common as you would assume and the pace reaction is excellent. The soundstage is so airy and extensive it really makes for a dreamy excellent working experience and primarily with the minimal to mid bass response which fills the audio in superbly. The pads are so lush and cozy with the velour padding, these come to feel as excellent as they audio. All round the x1s seem costly and refined and they are surely keepers.

I love these headphones but they have one small problem and that is the cable, it makes the bass a little loose when you compare it to more precise headphones but now the x2 came out that’s been improved. Great audio – but not too comfy. . Great build, look nice and superb sound with headphone amp. But: foam ear cups far too itchy and firm. There is no sculpturing or pivot , so they sit against the widest part of the head and do not envelop the ears properly. Moreover, the space for the ears is too small, and so the pinna is either rolled up inside or being pressed against. Plus, the ear cups are not replaceable – the fabric is stretched tightly over the metal inner cup structure. Certainly a source of fraying at some point in the future. For me, on balance, they were far too uncomfortable – even after a week’s wear. So, they have been returned. Trying the akg 702s next, and then the senny 650s.

Great construction and very comfortable in use. Great construction and very comfortable in use. Very little pressure over the ears. Yes it does leak sound like a sieve but it really is designed for indoor hi fi use. In that respect it is excellent the dynamic range and sense of space is excellent. I am not convinced the sound is utterly neutral but it is beautifully natural and does not produce any listening fatigue. As someone who plays as well as listens to music the sound is just what i hoped. In this price bracket if you are looking for a serious pair of hi fi headphones to make the best of your collection and maybe find new things hidden within it they cannot be faulted.

So after a year spending with them i can say that it was a very good buy. I am very happy with the sound now, but it needed a lot of improvements. First of all that cable, that headphone cable. 5 mm cable from amazon will sound better. I bought for myself a copper series cable from forza audio. Clarity, detail, everything is so crystal clear now. But if you want to be a big boy, you have to eat properly. Meridian explorer it was, with an atlas element usb cable. A whole new world has opened in front of me. Then i realised what i was missing. Sorry, did i tell you something about clarity and details before?. Curtains has opened and i am sitting in a front row. Everything is so musical, so enjoyable and so real now. You just can’t hear this from a laptop or tv output. The music has a lot of energy now, instruments are more separated, vocals are in front of you, but it’s very balanced.

Genuinely enjoy music again. Used with many different sources, does not seem to have a ceiling. Bought these to replace my old sennheiser hd-280 pro after many years of service, the headphones started falling apart so it was time for a little indulgence. I enjoy all time classics as if they were new tracks, the stage and sound separation is so well balanced and clear it makes me wanna listen the tracks several times just for the sake of enjoyment. But be careful, the source you use will condition the result in a big manner. Let’s start from less to more:ipad and ipad mini: i give it a meeehh to ok minus. The ipad does not seem to run these very well, the sound is acceptable but after running them on other sources with better output you will be disappointed. Laptop, dell latitude e7440 and macbook pro mid 2010: the dell runs them fine when plugged to the means, but quality lowers when working on battery, my marks on each from 1 to 10 would be a 7. 5 and a 7 when working on battery.

Design 10/10 very well made, don’t think they is a better headphone out there for design. Comfort 10/10 even though these have very high quality materials, the headphone is very light. Audio 10/10 this my first headphone in this price range and it don’t disappoint. Using this over my last set is like when i first switch to hd from sd in audio terms. Everything is very clear and high detailed. One down side, but to me not worthy giving a down grade on it, is you can’t remove the ear pads.
